“Pathinigama” Model Village Handed Over to the Public in Kurunegala District

In line with the current government’s housing policy, several initiatives are being implemented to fulfill the housing needs of low-income families across the country. As part of these efforts, the “Pathinigama” Model Village, consisting of 24 houses constructed under the Indian Housing Assistance Programme, was officially handed over to the public on (04).The ceremony was held under the patronage of the Indian High Commissioner, Hon. Santosh Jha, and the Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply, Hon. Dr. H.M. Susil Ranasinghe.The model village is located in the Hulogedara area, within the 243 Ithawa Grama Niladhari Division of the Kotavehera Divisional Secretariat in the Kurunegala District. The village is fully equipped with essential infrastructure facilities, including water supply, electricity, and road access.

The Government of India contributed Rs. 12 million towards the project, while the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) provided Rs. 7.3 million. With additional support from other government and private institutions, along with community participation, the total project cost amounted to Rs. 39.957 million.This project marks the first Indian-assisted model village established in the Kurunegala District. The initiative is implemented under the visionary guidance of the Prime Minister of India, Hon. Narendra Modi, through grants provided by the Government of India.The National Housing Development Authority is responsible for coordinating and implementing the programme.

The event was attended by several distinguished guests, including the Governor of the North Western Province, Deputy Ministers, Members of Parliament, District and Divisional Secretaries, NHDA officials, and local residents.

This project represents a significant milestone in enhancing housing accessibility and improving the quality of life for low-income families in Sri Lanka.
