A Place of One’s Own – A Beautiful Life
Under the “A Place of One’s Own – A Beautiful Life” housing assistance programme, several newly constructed houses in the Mannar District were ceremonially declared open.
These houses were built under the allocations made for the Mannar District in the year 2025 through this project. For 2025, the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) allocated a sum of LKR 160 million for housing construction in the Mannar District. Accordingly, a total of 215 houses were constructed.The ceremony to hand over the newly built houses to the beneficiaries was organized by the District Manager of the NHDA – Mannar, together with the staff. The event was attended by the Member of Parliament for the Mannar District, Mr. Jegatheeswaran, along with local council members, Divisional Secretaries, Assistant Divisional Secretaries, Grama Niladharis, and other government officials.In addition to the resettlement housing programme for those displaced during the war, the housing assistance programme—under which a grant of LKR 1 million is provided per beneficiary—is also being implemented in the Mannar District in parallel with the “National Housing Programme.”Furthermore, for this year, the National Housing Development Authority has proposed the construction of 185 houses in the Mannar District, for which LKR 148 million has been allocated.
