A Place of One’s Own – A Beautiful Life” National Housing Programme 2026 Launched in Galle
The National Housing Programme 2026, titled “A Place of One’s Own – A Beautiful Life”, was officially launched today (28) in Galle, under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.
The programme aims to provide housing solutions for families without permanent homes, with a target of constructing 31,000 houses nationwide. As part of this initiative, the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) plans to complete over 15,000 houses in 2026.
Under the housing assistance scheme, Rs. 1 million grants were awarded, with 207 beneficiaries in the Galle District receiving cheques today. Additionally, housing loan cheques were also issued to selected beneficiaries.
For 2026, the NHDA plans to construct 1,043 houses in the Galle District, with a total investment of Rs. 1,034 million, marking a threefold increase compared to 2025.
The event was held under the guidance of Minister Dr. Susil Ranasinghe and supervision of Deputy Minister T. B. Sarath, with the participation of ministers, MPs, district officials, and NHDA representatives.
