World Habitat Week 2025 begins today. Marking its commencement, the Polonnaruwa District

World Habitat Week 2025 begins today. Marking its commencement, the Polonnaruwa District Office held a tree-planting program and a shramadana (voluntary community service) campaign this morning (October 01) under the patronage of the State Minister of Housing, Mr. T. B. Sarath. The event took place at the premises of the National Housing Development Authority’s Polonnaruwa District Office.

The inaugural ceremony was organized by the Polonnaruwa District Manager together with officials. Chairman of the Hingurakgoda Pradeshiya Sabha, Mr. M. G. Jayathilaka, along with several public representatives, also participated in the occasion.

This year marks the 39th World Habitat Day, celebrated under the theme “A Place of Your Own – A Beautiful Life.” To mark the occasion, a series of programs will be implemented islandwide from today until the 6th of this month, while the national celebration is scheduled to be held under the patronage of His Excellency the President, Mr. Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
