Many people today are suffering due to the lack of a home of their own. In such a context, the present government has launched a new housing programme to fulfill the housing needs of these families. As part of this initiative, the handing over of four newly constructed houses in the Dimbulagala Divisional Secretariat Division of the Polonnaruwa District took place recently under the patronage of the Deputy Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply, Hon. T. B. Sarath.
This housing programme is implemented under the theme “A Place of One’s Own – A Beautiful Life.” Accordingly, the houses were handed over to Mr. R. P. Samantha Rukmal of Bamunakotuwa, Ms. P. P. M. Dayawathi of Pimburaththawa, Ms. U. K. G. Renuka Priyadarshani of Pimburaththawa, and Ms. Y. W. Chandra Padmalatha of Jayamuthugama, Aralaganwila.The programme is being implemented by the National Housing Development Authority. Under this housing scheme, a financial grant of Rs. 1 million is provided to each beneficiary for the construction of a house. The programme aims to reduce housing-related hardships and poverty among low-income and underprivileged families.The event was attended by the Polonnaruwa District Manager of the National Housing Development Authority, Mr. C. J. Tennakoon, along with several other officials.
